1,600 Cyclists Coming to Hartsville!
On Sept. 25-26, approx. 1,600 cyclists will ride the 25th anniversary Bike MS: Breakaway to the Beach Ride 2010. Participants will saddle up in the greater Charlotte and Columbia metro areas, have lunch at Coker College in Hartsville and then ride to Francis Marion University in Florence for the 25th anniversary celebration and overnight stay. The ride will finish at Sunset Beach, N.C., on Sunday.
Money raised by Bike MS supports the 8,000 people in South Carolina and western North Carolina affected by multiple sclerosis.
Multiple sclerosis – the number one disease causing disability in young adults – is an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system. Symptoms range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis. There is no cure for MS, but advances in research and treatment are helping people with MS continue to move their lives forward.
With four route options to choose from, cyclists can ride anywhere from 125-200 miles over the course of the weekend. Fully supported routes make the ride accessible for cyclists of all ability levels, while the new Double Century (200 mile) option provides a challenge for more experienced cyclists.
It’s not too late to register as a cyclist or volunteer! Visit http://www.breakawaytothebeach.org or call 1-800-344-4867.
