Archaeology exhibit at Hartsville Museum
This exhibit was created and developed by Erika Shofner, a master’s student at the University of South Carolina Anthropology Department as part of her thesis project.
The Johannes Kolb site is an archaeological dig in Mechanicsville, named for a German immigrant who settled there in 1737. Archaeological excavations have revealed objects spanning from 12,000 B.C. up to the early 20th century.
The special exhibit will give visitors a glimpse into the lives of the people who once lived and worked at the site and look at the connections the people of the past have with people of today. Come join us in exploring South Carolina’s history and the people who helped shape it.
The Hartsville Museum is open Monday-Friday from 10am-5pm and on Saturdays from 10am-2pm. Admission is free.
