Carolina Elementary Celebrates 60th Anniversary
In 1949 Carolina Elementary School in Hartsville first opened its doors to educating children. This year the school celebrates its 60th anniversary. Several of the students attending school at Carolina today are the grandchildren of the original students. To mark the important anniversary, the school hosted a Grandparents’ Day/Anniversary Celebration in November.
On that beautiful fall day, approximately one hundred grandparents descended on the school. They were welcomed by student guides, who then escorted them to their grandchildren’s classrooms. From there, the grandchildren took their special guests on a tour of the school.
In addition to the various classrooms, students and their guests visited the book fair in the media center and enjoyed refreshments in the cafeteria. Throughout the morning, the fifth grade students presented a musical program for everyone’s enjoyment.
Carolina Elementary School currently serves 240 students in grades 1-5. The school was recently recognized by the United States Department of Education as a 2009 No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School.
