Churchgoer Tweet:  The Meaning of Christmas

Posted by deleted on 12/08 at 10:37 AM

As we approach the birthday of the Almighty Creator, please remember Jesus made the season for a reason.  What church organizes the toys for poor people program?

Like the really smart long writer that reads 3 Bibles says “my postings do not always reflect my personal beliefs.”  Me to.  I always thought there was only one bible.  Did the same guy write all three?

Actually no - the same “guy” didn’t write all three. Of course I was mainly talking the big three monotheistic religions of this country, I completely ignored hinduism, which has a lot of followers in its own right. I left out wicca too, because to my knowledge they don’t have a single book or library they follow.

Your “bible” (which is simply Latin for book - the word itself has no religious meaning), was written by the Jews and early Christians. The “word” of God became flesh - and after listening to Jesus, people retold his stories until they were written down a few hundred years later.

In the tradition of Islam, the “word” of God became book, not flesh. The Qu’ran fell from God’s (Allah’s, not Yahweh’s) hands to earth as a finished product.

So technically - the same God did not write all three. Man wrote two, and God put his being into the third. Which is why Muslims get ticked when you vandalize their book. Its like you are affronting God himself.

And - while I’m at it, Jesus didn’t create the season for a reason. He didn’t celebrate it at all. Christmas is a celebration of his birth. Man created the season, to honor him. Technically, Jesus was born in the spring anyway, so we are either nine months late or three months early.

But hey - I couldn’t bare to listen to “jingle bells” from Black Friday until March, so I’m happy with it where it is.

I have posted another answer to your question on The Faith Board:

The short answer is yes there is only one Holy Bible; it was written by over 40 people over approximately an 1,800 year period; the last book was written about 70 years after Jesus was crucified, not several hundred years later.
