Education Tax

Perhaps Audrey or Liz can best answer this? Last week our elderly Mom almost fell out of her chair when opening her Property Tax bill and exclaiming “$1000. for Education Tax?!!”

We live in the City limits of Hartsville and this particular Education Tax caught our eye. Will every Hartsville student soon have shiny new Dell laptops?

In layman’s terms, can you explain the recent hike in this tax and how it is being utilized? Thanks.

How much of an increase was this particular tax compared to the amount on her bill last year?

Also, how much was her final tax bill this year and last? Is this on the county property tax bill or a separate city bill?

It will be easier to find the answer to your question with this information.

County school millage went up 6.8 from the previous year.  This was in the paper when the school board passed the budget.

Also, look closely….my bill showed a school tax CREDIT as well as a sales tax CREDIT.  Both of these amounts lowered my bill.

About the only way to combat rising taxes, is to protest your homes market value.  I did this past year and was granted an 11% reduction in the value of my home.
