Filing for school board seats opens Aug. 2

The filing period for Darlington County Board of Education elections opens at noon on Aug. 2 and will remain open until noon on Aug. 16.
Four seats in districts 1, 3, 5 and 7 will be filled in the November 2 general election.
Anyone wishing to run for one of the seats must file with the Darlington County Board of Elections and Voter Registration. Filing includes completing a statement of candidacy form and a statement of economic interest form, both of which must be completed at the time of filing.
The office is located at 131 Cashua St. in Darlington, and the office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday for filing. There is no filing fee.
The District 1 seat is currently held by Tom Henson of Darlington. District 3 is represented by Joyce Thomas, also of Darlington. Tommy Jeffords of Darlington holds the District 5 seat and Dr. Allen McCutchen of Hartsville represents District 7.
School board elections in Darlington County are nonpartisan.
