Food Service Employees Recognized
(5-18-11)—Darlington County School District’s Food Services department recently held their Annual Awards Banquet. The event is a celebration of the many successes the food service employees achieve during the year.
Four individuals were recognized as they retired this year. Retiring food service employees are: Farest Planter (29 years), Suzanne Cooke (10 years), Bobbie Mozingo (10 years), and James Jackson (15 years).
Every year special awards are given to school cafeterias for their outstanding achievements:
• DCSD Kitchen of the Year, given to the kitchen that epitomizes the best of the best in teamwork, decorating and meeting the needs of both students and staff: Darlington Middle School. Jackie Staley is the manager.
• Director’s Award, given by the Food Service Director to an individual who exceeds in his/her job responsibilities and goes the extra mile when needed: Barbara Smith of Spaulding Elementary/Middle School.
• Greatest Increase in Breakfast Participation: Pate Elementary School, Diane Bell, manager
• Greatest Increase in Lunch Participation: Darlington Middle School, Jackie Stalvey, manager
• Here’s the Scoop, given to the individual who is the “backbone” of the kitchen: Roberta McKay of Pate Elementary School.
• Manager of the Year: Shirley Lucas of Hartsville High School
• Participation Award Elementary Level: Rosenwald Elementary/Middle School, Sandra Martin, manager
• Participation Award Secondary Level: Hartsville Middle School, Shirley Gainey, manager.
• Rookie of the Year given to an employee who is new in his/her job, or a new employee to the District: Channan Faulkner of Cain Elementary School.
• Super Staff Teamwork for the team that functions best as a unit, meeting the needs of their school not only in the kitchen but in other ways as well: North Hartsville Elementary School. Sherry Durante is the manager.
• The Golden Apple Award, given to the cafeteria that excels in integrating the cafeteria into school celebrations and programs: Carolina Elementary School, Joyce Barrineau is the manager.
