Hartsville police have ruled out foul play in the death of a Darlington area man whose body was found in a Hartsville motel room Tuesday, Police Chief James Hudson said.

Hudson said Thursday that police are still waiting on toxicology test results from an autopsy to confirm a cause of death. Those results could take about two weeks, he said.

Hudson identified the man as 24-year-old Preston Stanley of Darlington.

A custodian found the body in a room at the Lakeview Motel on North Fifth Street and Lakeview Boulevard at around 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, Hudson said.

“We are still following some leads, but there was no foul play involved,” he said.

Hudson said Tuesday that investigators believe Stanley was staying at the motel and that someone else was in the room with him. That person has been found, questioned and cleared, he said.
