Foxes lose close game to Conway
The Hartsville Red Foxes lost to the Conway Tigers 4-3 in Region VI action Friday in Conway.
It has been said that, “Great teams win with grace and lose with dignity.” We should be very proud of the 2010 edition of the Hartsville Red Foxes. Preseason polls did not have this team ranked as one of the top 40 teams in the state. That’s OK, the 2007 team that won the 4A State Championship was not a preseason favorite either. The Foxes are use to it, but at the end of the day, the Red Foxes will carry on a tradition of Fox Pride handed down to them by the many former players who have worn the Red Fox uniform. Your Red Foxes lost the game tonight with dignity and honor.
As the players gathered their equipment and was walking to the bus for the ride home, we all sensed a family closeness beyond explanation. We as a Red Fox family have experienced the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. The Red Foxes realize the importance of the 3 remaining games. This group of fine young men have been down this traveled road before-they know the destination with clarity and purpose.
The Foxes scored first in the top half of the first inning. Dylan Usher launched a double to right field and scored on a Brandon Bean’s SAC to right. Starting pitcher Cody Mincey would have the “tigers by the tail” until the 5th inning when they would score a run to tie the game.
Foxes would take the lead 2-1 in the 5th on a run scoring single by Cody Mincey. Will Lucas who had walked, rounded 3rd looking like a freight train rumbling home with all the steam he could muster. After the dust had settled, the plate umpire held out his arms “safe”!
The bottom half of the 6th inning for Conway would prove to be the difference maker. The Tigers scored 3 runs with the pivotal hit being a 2 run soft hit to right over a drawn in infield.
Top half of the 7th, Seth Lowe mashed a double to left center. Speedy Lance Gaddy entered the game as a courtesy runner. He was able to score on a single by Cody Mincey.
Final score 4-3. Foxes were led by Cody Mincey who went 2-3 with 2 RBI’s.
Your Red Foxes will play Robert E Lee Cavaliers in Bishopville at 3:00 pm today. Should be a great day for baseball. Come on to Bishopville and enjoy the game. Hope to see you there!

Lisa, thanks for the great job you did in covering this game and the team the entire season.
You’re a great writer.
When is the next home game for the Foxes? Can anyone tell us if they will still make the playoffs?
