Free Medical Clinic of Darlington County Receives $70,000 Grant from BlueCross BlueShield Foundation

The BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation presented a $70,000 grant today to the Free Medical Clinic of Darlington County.
The celebratory check presentation took place in front of more than 100 guests at the Pavilion at Lawton Park in Hartsville, S.C. The Free Medical Clinic of Darlington County strives to improve the lives of the citizens of Darlington County that are uninsured and underinsured; the grant will help with funding to ensure the health and well-being of those in need.
Executive Harvey Galloway of the BlueCross Foundation shared that there are now 40 free medical clinics in South Carolina; the mission of the Foundation is to promote the health of South Carolinians and to expand access to healthcare for the economically disadvantaged by supporting integrated research, education and community service.
Several dignitaries spoke at the event including Sen. Gerald Malloy, Rep. Denny Neilson, and Rep. Jay Lucas.
Executive Director of the Free Medical Clinic of Darlington County Kathy Baxley accepted the grant on behalf of the many volunteers, staff, and community members that have supported the clinic during the years. She gave special thanks to her husband, Dr. Luke Baxley, for his enduring support of the clinic.
