GSSM: New Facilities Prepare for Growth
GSSM welcomed the new class of 2012 and seniors returning from a summer of university research with sparkling new facilities that represent the completion of campus construction that began in 2002.
Over the summer, more than 70,000 square feet of teaching and athletic space were added to the campus. State of the art science equipment, classroom technology, a gym, and a fitness center provide facilities for GSSM to offer its nationally acclaimed programs to more of South Carolina’s most accomplished high school scholars. With plans to grow its student body to more than double its current limit of 128, the school is now working with the S.C. General Assembly on funding and timing for this critical expansion.
While the new facilities serve GSSM student programs during the school year, they are also busy during the summer with Outreach programs that serve hundreds of teachers from around the state. These teachers return to their classrooms with new tools and techniques to bring advanced science education to more than 20,000 South Carolina students each year. A critical part of its mission, GSSM’s Outreach activities support science and math education across the state.
GSSM’s completed campus supports its mission to provide the best science and math education available to the state’s students and to provide a model for science and math education for the state’s schools.
A commissioning celebration is planned and will be announced soon.
