From staff reports

Darlington County deputies have captured a suspect in connection with a home invasion in the area of High Point, Bay and Tema roads in Hartsville on Thursday.

They, along with Chesterfield County sheriff’s deputies and U.S. Marshals, arrested 36-year-old Robert Brandon Cassidy of 1061 Morton Drive in Hartsville just after 6 p.m. Thursday, Darlington County Sheriff’s Capt. Andy Locklair said.

Warrants were issued for Cassidy’s arrest for first-degree burglary and two counts of assault and battery with intent to kill.

Deputies responded to the home invasion report about 4 a.m. Thursday at a 1061 Geechie Drive residence.

The suspect entered the home and stabbed two people inside. Both victims were taken to an area hospital with multiple stab wounds. No information on their condition was available.

When deputies arrived to arrest the suspect, he ran off into the woods, Locklair said.

Southside Early Childhood Center, West Hartsville Elementary and Hartsville Middle schools were locked down around lunchtime in accordance with the Darlington County School District’s policy when search for a criminal suspect takes places within three miles of a school, district spokeswoman Audrey Childers said. That policy is in an “abundance of caution,” she said.

The lockdowns were lifted at all three schools before normal class dismissal times, Childers said.

Good for the cops! I remember last year when several home invasions ended with the deaths of the invaders. This person should count his blessings he is only going to jail, although I would rather have seen him on the obituary page, than the booking page.
