I 95 rescue run

Posted by raptha on 04/15 at 11:59 PM

Saturday morning there will be a van of 50 dogs and 1 cat leaving the Darlington shelter for a trip up I 95 to virginia to meet another driver who will take them to a safe haven where they will find a forever home.  Please help by chipping in just a dollar to help pay for van rental, gas, etc. If the citizens of Darlington were responsible and spay/neuter their pets we would not have to send our throw-a-aways up North for them to take care of what we are to lazy or to stupid to do. Well, that’s one way to ask for support - ask for donations, then call us lazy and stupid.

Regardless, I’m glad these animals will have a second chance. This is definitely a worthy cause. Good luck!

I did not mean to offend anyone but the truth is if pet owners would take care to spay and neuter then there would not be a need for the I 95 runs. This morning I helped load a van of dogs that are heading for no kill shelters in Vermont. Now that does not make any sense to have to send our pets to Vermont because owners will not take care. I know that the procedures can be expensive. I myself have 5 cats and a dog. But, low cost spay neuter program is avaiable through the shelter. Just call to make an apt, all the owner has to do is drop them off and pick them up. A volunteer drives a van load to the Columbia ASPCA clinic, waits for them to be fixed and drives them back. It is about half of what a private vet will charge. When people say I cant afford it- I say, well, skip that dinner at Applebees, Outback, etc once, skip that movie or beer and you can get it done and help save lives. If a owner is not willing to take care of their pet, they dont deserve them and it could be neglect. If they cant drop them off at the shelter for the trip to the clinic then they must be to lazy. It takes all of 10 minutes to drop them off. How many times do you drive by the shelter area? Probably plenty. If you really dont have the transportation, then I would be willing to do the drop off and pick up for you. How much easier can it be?
