It’s Cold Outside…How Can You Help?

In this bitter cold, elderly people on fixed incomes have a very difficult time dealing with higher heating costs to stay warm- and as always, Hartsville Interfaith Ministries is there. Donations can be mailed to H.I.M. 210 Swift Creek Rd. Hartsville, SC 29550 ...or dropped off (just of 4th Street)  or call: (843) 857-9003. The Food Bank is within HIM and always needs non-perishable food.

Children need to be warm:  donate warm clothing and outerwear of all ages to The Kid’s Closet at the former Hartsville Junior High School on Carolina Avenue.  All sizes are appropriate since some children have younger siblings at home that need clothing, and teenagers are just as big as adults. The drop-off can be after or before hours, according to board member of Carolina Kids LLC, “The Kids Closet is very excited to have a donation bin outside its doors on the porch for your clothing donations (behind the adult
education ctr-8th street side). The bin is checked and emptied almost daily. It is a new bin that is clean and dry so your donations will remain in great condition. Include your name and address with your donation if you’d like a form for your taxes.”

Unfortunately, the holidays can be a tumultuous time for dysfunctional families and some children are removed from dangerous situations and sent to foster care.  If you’ve ever considered being a foster family, this may be the season to act- there is a need for good safe, loving homes for children.  Contact Darlington County Department of Social Services 130 E. Camden Ave., Hartsville, SC, 29550 (843) 332-2231

If being a foster parent is more than you are able to do at this time, the Darlington County Guardian ad Litem program is a way to help be a voice to children in foster care~  visit the GAL website for more information: http://www.darlington.scgal.org/

Finally, if you have room in your family and your warm home, consider adopting an animal from the Darlington County Humane Society.
