Jordan Lyles Latest Outing at AA Corpus Christi

Jordan Lyles tossed six innings of three-run ball and J.R. Towles cracked a two-run double in the first inning Friday night as the Hooks split their four-game series with the RockHounds thanks to a 4-3 victory in the finale at Citibank Ballpark.
Corpus Christi (13-15) took advantage of thee Midland (15-13) errors en route to its second consecutive victory.
The Hooks benefited from a quick start on back-to-back singles by T.J. Steele and Marcos Cabral to open the first. Two outs later, Towles doubled on a line drive to left field, putting Corpus Christi up 2-0.
Lyles, who surrendered a run on a double-play ball in the first, scattered six hits and four walks over six innings. He struck out two, throwing 65 of his 105 pitches for strikes. RBIs by Yusuf Carter and Michael Richard accounted for the RockHounds’ two runs in the fourth.
David Cook and Koby Clemens kick-started Corpus Christi’s rally in the eighth, reaching on errors to begin the frame. Towles was then hit by a pitch to load the bases, setting the stage for Jimmy VanOstrand’s RBI force play. Jon Gaston delivered immediately with a sacrifice fly to centerfield, giving the Hooks a 4-3 advantage.
Nelson Payano (1-0) and Jared Wells bridged the gap to Danny Meszaros who recorded his fifth save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning.
Pedro Figueroa made the start for Midland and fanned five while walking two over six innings. The two unearned runs cost Beau Vaughan (0-2) who was charged with the loss.
Steele, 2-for-5 with a run on the night, ups his hitting streak to eight games.
Corpus Christi opens a four-game homestand with the San Antonio Missions Saturday night when Wynn Pelzer (2-3) takes on Jeremy Johnson (0-2). Gates open at 5:30 and first pitch is 7:05 as the first 2,500 fans receive Hooks Beach Towels from ValueBank Texas.
