CORPUS CHRISTI - First baseman Koby Clemens, shortstop Wladimir Sutil, outfielder J.B. Shuck and pitchers Douglas Arguello and Jordan Lyles have been selected to the Texas League South Division All-Star Team, announced today by league president Tom Kayser.

The North and South All-Stars meet in the 74th Texas League All-Star Game Wednesday, June 30, at Midland’s Citibank Ballpark.

Clemens, 23, leads the league in home runs (16) and total bases (119) and ranks second in RBIs (44).  Voted as the South Division’s starting first baseman, Clemens was the league’s Player of the Week May 31 - June 6 and was named Corpus Christi’s offensive player of the month in April (.263-7-18 in 21 games).  In 2009, Clemens topped the minor leagues with 123 RBIs.

Sutil, 25, makes the squad as a reserve infielder while Shuck, 22, earns a spot as a reserve outfielder.  Sutil (.266-0-14, 7 SB) is generally regarded as one of the circuit’s top defensive shortstops and ranks second at his position in double plays (44).  He was picked as the Hooks’ defensive player of the month in April (22 PO, 44 A, 2 E).

Shuck stands fourth in the league in average (.305) and is tied for second in the loop in hits (71).  He also owns Corpus Christi’s longest hitting streak this year (11 games).  Shuck received the nod as the league’s Player of the Week May 10-16 and was chosen Corpus Christi’s offensive player of the month in May (.317, 6 doubles, 1 HR, 12 RBIs).

Arguello, 25, is tied for the league lead with two complete games while ranking second in strikeouts (66) and innings pitched (82.1).  He is also tied for third in wins (6) and stands tenth in ERA (2.73).  Arguello was named the league’s Pitcher of the Week May 17-23 and chosen as Corpus Christi’s pitcher of the month in May (4-1, 1.98, 5 starts).

Lyles, 19, is ranked by Baseball America as the top pitching prospect in the Astros’ farm system.  He is currently third in the league in strikeouts (59) and eighth in ERA (2.70).

Sutil and Arguello were also voted to the South Division All-Star Team in 2009.

Balloting was conducted among league managers, broadcasters, selected beat writers and media relations directors

Even though Jordan is considered the top minor league pitching prospect in the Astros organization, I’d love to have seen him on the mound Saturday pitching for the Gamecocks in Omaha.
