Kind Lady At Library

Posted by lightning bug on 04/28 at 01:40 AM

I was deeply touched today by the kind deed of a very nice lady at the library.  I was in line with my children waiting to get their books checked out. My little girl picked up a book off the table where they have books on sale.  It wasn’t expensive, but I hadn’t brought any money with me because I didn’t think we would need any for our short outing.  She asked me if she could have the book because, “it was perfect.”  I told her not today and told her to put it back, and she did.  The lady in line beside me went and got it, brought it up to the counter and asked if I would be mad if she bought it for her.  I was so touched, and so in awe of her kindness.  I felt very guilty in saying she could, but then again, I knew she really wanted to do it, or she wouldn’t have asked. I told her it was alright and she bought the book.  The book made my little girl very happy, and the kindness of that lady warmed my heart well beyond today.  If she reads this, I would like to say thank you again, and please know that I plan to pass the kindness on to someone else at the first chance I get.  People like you give me hope and make the world a much better place.  God bless you, always.

Thanks for submitting this, lightning bug.  It is nice to hear of a voluntary kind act.  I think your idea to ‘pay it forward’ is great.

It makes my heart swell when I read about the kind acts of others in our wonderful small town. I think Hartsville is a very special place to live. I hope others will report random acts of kindness they see around town.

Although Sherry and I don’t agree on much I too like to hear of such a kind act and the paying it forward is something we all should do. Most internet boards turn in to gripe sessions. Thanks for sharing!

Jana, I bet you are talking about George Nickles he use to keep the back seat of his car full of stuffed animals. He was the man who ran the Manhattan restaurant and he use to give little girls toy rings and I don’t know what he gave the little boys. I loved going there with my parents. He really loved Children. Does anyone else remember who I am talking about?

I remember George. I never knew he did that, but what a nice memory. As for the lady at the library, that was a very nice thing to do and I am glad lightning bug was willing to accept the offer. I too love to do things for children, but too many people are skeptical about the offer and will refuse. Not only does this make me feel bad, but I feel bad for the child as they are learning not to trust anybody. There still are some good people in this world, you just need to be able to identify them. Caution with strangers is always smart, fear of strangers makes for a stressful life. Pass on the kindness lightning bug…. others will feel the same way you did.
