Missing HVTD

Posted by sherryfm on 10/28 at 10:04 AM

I know it is great that we have hvtd back again.  It is just short of miraculous that the site has been resurrected.  I really do appreciate all the hard work that went into the website.

I know Doug has said there will be improvements along the way.  This is just my wishlist of things I hope to see soon.

-Names of users logged in and the number of guests
-A sidebar with new content highlighted (a way to tell if there are unread posts and comments since your last login)
-The counter that told how many times a post has been read.

Just sayin’

All good suggestions, and things I have passed on to Matt (some of which he and I had already talked about).

Some of the former Drupal things we will be able to duplicate; others not. Of this list, I’d put a priority on trying to get that sidebar up, but I don’t know whether it will take a hack and whether that can be done in the way we are using Expression Engine.

Rest assured I am passing all this along.

Go to the Articles drop-down box. At the bottom you will see a Post New Article link. Click on that and the rest should be fairly easy.

(To post a photo, go to the bottom of the Photos drop-down box.)

Here is the answer
—Names of users logged in and the number of guests

I know EE does not keep a running total of the number of unregistered users looking at a page at a given moment.  I’m not quite sure if it logs registered users or not…I’ll look into it.

—A sidebar with new content highlighted (a way to tell if there are unread posts and comments since your last login)

This is the purpose of the front page, the front page will list the latest 5 articles posted to each category.  EE does not keep track of
what a user has read (that’s mostly found in forum software) so there’s no way to pull that information out of the database.  So this is
partially implemented, but not fully.

—The counter that told how many times a post has been read.
Again, mostly a forum feature, EE does not track the number of “reads” of articles or which logged in user or guest has read them so nowhere to pull these numbers from.

Thanks for checking on that, Doug.  I know you have a busy life, so I really appreciate your effort.

Ooooooo! a suggestion for a suggestion forum. I love it! a double.

I know it is rude to mess with someone else’s browser but I’d like to suggest that off-site links (particularly videos) open in a new window. That way if you have a long video one doesn’t run the risk of the system logging you out.

I’d like in Photos section, the person that posted the pics be identified. Someone like Jana should get credit for all her great photographs.

Yes, we are aware that the caption function isn’t working in the photos section and Matt is working on that.

I enjoyed the little icons next to the poster’s name, like a mini avatar, so you would know who you were writing to or reading.

Yes, but Matt tells me they are not available in the part of Expression Engine we are using.

This “new site” is taking some REAL geting used to for me.  I REALLY miss the old format.  I can’t tell what is where, or who is on, what is new, or where even to look or anything most of the time—I need gin now!

I am just dizzy!

***Doug—-work out the tweaks—this is not as good, and seems to need lots of work. I question the quality as well.  The other was so much less sophomoric in appearance, and in the way it was set up. Not as fun for this “poster”.

You are a blessing, Doug smile

Whats wrong with the time stamp on posts. They are 1 hr later than the real time.

Server must still be on daylight saving time. I can’t fix it, but will let MG know.
