Must have permanent e-mail when signing up

I’ve received several requests for registration lately - the latest from Hartsvillian - that I have been unable to activate because they are using temporary e-mail services such as 10minute mail.

We have to have a permanent e-mail address. Two reasons:
—Those temp accounts may expire before we can activate, meaning you never get the activation message and it just kicks back to us.
—Those services can be too easily spoofed. I spend a lot of time each day turning away spam account requests - probably two dozen or more daily. The point is to keep this a pleasant place for you to visit and use. In some of these cases where I have been unable to activate, the IP address tracks to a local computer or network, but I simply can’t be sure who I am dealing with if the message kicks back (as it often does with spammers when we send them the “go-away” message). So I simply don’t activate those using temporary e-mail services.

Work with me here. We’re not sending out spam or commercial messages from this site via e-mail. But we need to be able to get hold of you in a way that gives us some confidence.

(Hartsvillian, I really want to activate your account, but I need you to re-register with a perm e-mail. There is no way for me to go in and change it for you.)

Thanks,
Doug
