Snowflakes on 5th…

Posted by Todd on 12/08 at 01:15 PM

Two snowflakes on 5th street between D&S subshop have been out for each of the three years that I’ve lived here in Hartsville.

I’m sure someone at city hall has noticed this, but would there be a reason why they don’t work?  A minor quibble, but it sticks out like a sore thumb.

Seeing as how the snowflakes are just plug-in ornaments, I dont think the flakes are to blame. It is most likely the power outlets on the poles.

I wouldn’t say they’re (NOT THERE) to lazy to fix them, but given city government, repairing the outlets would probably involve four committees, at least two votes, an environmental impact study, a water drainage study, and cutting across at least two lanes of fifth street, for a week, with a total repair cost of around $100,000.

So, enjoy the working ones. Don’t kick the sleeping bear.

Liz Taylor, City of Hartsville says:

The snowflakes are okay; it is the power poles that are not working properly. The City of Hartsville is working with Progress Energy to get them fixed.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Well, they were fixed in time for the holidays.  I assumed that it was a power problem on the poles because it was the same two poles each year.  Hard to imagine no one else from the city didn’t notice it before.
