St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal to offer Alpha course this fall
Special to The Messenger
St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Hartsville will offer the Alpha course this fall over a 10-week period in weekly sessions.
The Alpha course is an opportunity to explore the meaning of the Christian faith. It gives participants the opportunity to explore the Christian faith in 10 thought-provoking weekly sessions. Alpha is for new Christians, newcomers to the church, those who want to deepen their understanding and faith and those who want to investigate Christianity further.
More than 13 million people worldwide have taken the course.
To introduce people to the Alpha course, St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal is holding an Alpha launch at the Pavilion at Lawton Park from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 13.
The weekly sessions will run Sept. 20 through Nov. 15 at the St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church Parish Hall.
The Alpha course consists of a series of talks looking at topics such as “Who is Jesus?” and “Why and how do I pray?”
Other questions and topics explored during the course include the point of life, why people suffer, what happens when we die and more.
The atmosphere is relaxed, low key, friendly and fun. A meal is offered at the beginning of each session, which gives participants time to get to know each other and make new friends.
Participants are encouraged to ask anything. Alpha is a place where no question is too simple or too hostile.
There is no charge for taking the course, but participants may be asked to make a contribution toward food.
