Thanks for getting HVTD back on line

Posted by rapuffer on 10/27 at 01:23 PM

For those who regularly contribute to the hartsvilletoday citizen journalism web site, there has been been a real sense of not being able to get the word out. Comments like, “If we can’t post on hvtd then how is anyone going to know?” were common refrains. Doug Fisher worked hard to find a way to recover hvtd. Doug tells us that the Media General owners worked hard to find a solution. He also talked about the individual effort of the Media General programmer who had to build much of the new area by hand.

So, to all those who made this happen, thank you from one contributor. Now we can know sooner rather than later about the Hartsville Red Regime winning first place. We can know sooner rather than later about the exploits of the Hartsville High Running Red Fox football team. We can know sooner rather than later about school issues.

Citizen journalism has many reasons for being. In this note I emphasize the ‘sooner rather than later’ purpose. All who read and contribute understand the ability of the citizenry to be part of the all-important monitoring of our world is a very unique attribute of this thing called citizen journalism. And, when someone writes the history of these changing times, citizen journalism is likely to be much more than a footnote.

Thanks to those who made it happen and welcome back hvtd!

Thanks for the kind words. I hope we can recover a lot of the functionality we had on the previous site and gain some new (such as the auto-convert to links that this software has). Another good new feature is that once you comment, you can be notified by e-mail of any new comments by clicking the check box just above “submit.”

Let me know if you have any problems.

While I love having HVTD back, it’s going to take me some time to get used to the changes! Boy, does it seem different. I guess after a while though this will seem like “home” the same as the old site did.
Oh, and add my thanks to those who worked hard to get it back for us.

Love it but can the fonts be increase. Old eyes make it hard to read.

Doug Fisher says:

Perk:

You can do that in your browser. Usually, if you go to the View tab on the top, you will see a way to increase the font in which your browser displays text.

If you want to make it permanent, you can usually go into your browsers’ preferences and set the font face and type you want. There’s also usually a box or button you can check (or uncheck) that will not let the page override your setings.
