Trading Post

Those of us that are long-time Hartsville residents will probably remember “Trading Post” from WHSC days. If you had something you wanted to get rid of, you just called up the DJs, announced on air what you needed or what you wanted to get rid of, and left your phone number.  Listeners would hear everything from folks looking to buy chickens to other folks getting rid of old appliances. It was always fun and fascinating!

If we started a Trading Post thread here, it would be fun!  You could state in your header if you’re trying to get rid of something or find something and then give us the details. Leave an e-mail for contacting.

We might have to set up some guidelines such as local folks only (don’t want someone from another state selling something on our site) and no commercial vendors (or set up a separate commercial vendor area).
Could we do it, Doug?

Don’t see why not.

20If you’re going to do it, I’d suggest using the business forum and settling on a standard code for the header, just like they use hashtags in Twitter. So, for instance, every trading post headline might begin “TPost” - as in:
TPost-bike
TPost-refrigerator
TPost-husband (sorry, couldn’t resist)

People can respond in the comments, and since we’re set to notify you when someone responds ...

I think that is a great idea. I hope it takes off. Lets spread the word.

I for one would be glad to see it. Perhaps it would keep the sales out of the rest of HVTD. The old version of the site was quickly degenerating into a classified section, I was glad to see the whole thing crash, as it became an opportunity to clean it up. Selling this - selling that. If I want to read about yard sales, I’ll just look at the trashy signs at the corner of Fifth and Lakeview. I don’t want to wade through that mess trying to learn about Bow Thai kitchen or what the mayor is up to.
