U Turns
When did we start doing U-Turns on Carolina Ave. and 5th Street ?
Over 50 years it was no U-Turns here in Hartsville.

It is to dangerous for U Turns in downtown.
There is nothing preventing a u-turn downtown. There have to be signs saying “no u turns”, otherwise a u turn is lawful unles it cannot be accomplished safely. How do you know if it’s safe? If no one has to slam on brakes to avoid hitting your dumb behind while you execute that u turn. Of course I think most people confuse a u turn with parking. A u turn is when you turn all the way around and return from whence you came. Turning left to park in one of those angled spots across the road from where you are driving is not a u turn, that’s simply a left turn. Most people seem to lack the skill for this, and wind up doing a sort of crappy semi-three point turn which is even more time consuming and hazardous than the u turn would have been.
I’ve made u turns trying to turn left on 5th toward Action Ford, I’d turn toward town and then do a u turn near taco bell if traffic allowed. That needs a light there or different design totally. Walmart and food places exit…..
I must agree with about the traffic light dm10ae.
I hope I don’t offend anybody here but anybody that makes a left turn to park a car is an idiot. I see it all the time and it makes me sooo mad. They will stop in the middle of the block not caring who is behind them, and when traffic allows they will try to park the car. Most of the time they end up blocking traffic in both directions while they park. No consideration for the other drivers and they don’t care how long it takes them. As long as they don’t have to walk more than 50 feet to the store, they are happy. I thought it was a northern thing, but I guess there are idiots all over.
That is why it is happening here to many from up North down here lol….
Probably when we joined the 21st century!!
