Trees still a concern at Hartsville Airport

The Hartsville Airport Advisory Committee held its first meeting in three months Wednesday after regular meetings in March and April could not proceed because of the lack of a quorum and May’s meeting was cancelled.

South Carolina Dramatically Improves Response in First Phase of 2010 Census

South Carolina’s 2010 Census mail participation rate is 73 percent, up 8 percent from 2000, which ties the Palmetto State with North Carolina for the nation’s biggest improvement in census mail response. The national rate is 72 percent as of Friday.

City manager search ‘tainted’ by illegal meetings

The failure of city of Hartsville officials to notify the press and public of meetings of the city’s City Manager Search Committee tarnishes the legality of the search process and exposes it to legal challenges, the executive director of the S.C. Press Association (SCPA) said. The attorney for the press association also said the meetings were illegal.

South Hartsville residents identify needs

A small group of South Hartsville residents voiced concerns about the need for better water and sewer infrastructure, more police patrols and security improvements, dilapidated and abandoned structures and poor storm water drainage among other issues during a public hearing in support of a grant application for community improvements.
