The City of Hartsville’s City Manager Search Committee will interview the five remaining candidates for the position of city manager in Columbia on Tuesday.
On Thursday the League of Women Voters, the Southeastern Institute for Women in Politics and partner organizations sponsored a walk from the front of the S.C. Statehouse to the second floor lobby for a brief program and press conference to celebrate Women’s Equality Day.

The search committee that will recommend potential candidates for the position of Hartsville City Manager began reviewing the resumes of 10 applicants Thursday.
The Hartsville Fire Department has a new fire chief. Interim City Manager Vern Myers announced Thursday that after an extensive search he has hired 25-year Hartsville Fire Department veteran Capt. Jeff Burr for the post.

The Hartsville Planning Commission voted to begin the process of expanding the city’s downtown central business district by rezoning an entire city block adjacent to the existing district and rezoning a smaller area on Railroad Avenue.
The City of Hartsville will maintain the trees in the city’s downtown streetscape, trimming them and pruning as necessary but will not remove them, at least for now.

The filing period for Darlington County Board of Education elections opens at noon on Aug. 2 and will remain open until noon on Aug. 16.
Discussions continue about what to do about the trees that make up Hartsville’s downtown treescape and the problems they are posing as two committees met Wednesday to look for solutions.
A New Jersey woman gave Hartsville City Council members a first look at plans she has for a development on more than 30 acres she owns in the South Hartsville area that if built will represent a major capital investment in the community and breathe new life into the South Hartsville neighborhood.

DARLINGTON - Darlington County Councilwoman Wilhelmina Johnson’s effort to get $35,000 in public funding from Darlington County Council to help bail the Darlington County Cultural Realism Complex (CRC) Inc., of which she is executive director, out of foreclosure proceedings constitutes a conflict of interest as defined by the State Ethics Reform Act, County Attorney Jim Cox said.
