Law blocks move to fund Darlington County shelter request

DARLINGTON – A standing-room-only crowd packed Darlington County Council chambers Monday, many of them there on behalf of the Darlington County Humane Society to support its request for nearly $42,000 in additional funding from the county in the coming budget year.

South Carolina Dramatically Improves Response in First Phase of 2010 Census

South Carolina’s 2010 Census mail participation rate is 73 percent, up 8 percent from 2000, which ties the Palmetto State with North Carolina for the nation’s biggest improvement in census mail response. The national rate is 72 percent as of Friday.

City manager search ‘tainted’ by illegal meetings

The failure of city of Hartsville officials to notify the press and public of meetings of the city’s City Manager Search Committee tarnishes the legality of the search process and exposes it to legal challenges, the executive director of the S.C. Press Association (SCPA) said. The attorney for the press association also said the meetings were illegal.
